• Develop appropriate solutions to the present day problems of Valparaíso • Promote a modern and progressive vision of urban development • Create a forum for dialogue and investigation of contemporary urban issues. • Participate in national and international urban research networks • Bring together groups of local professionals working in relevant urban occupations. • Facilitate skill-building workshops for local construction workers • Coordinate council of local organizations for the defense and promotion of the city´s architectural herit. • Build relationships between foreign universities and institutions and their local counterparts. • Create a public documentation facility open to all types of visitors. • Document and promote the recognition of the city’s intangible heritage • Create a core of activity and interest in the Center’s immediate neighbour hood, incorporating the Plaza La Matriz in the activities of the Center.
Urban Context
The Center’s three buildings, which form the west side of the Plaza La Matriz are registered as landmarks by three separate designations. Additionally, the buildings are located in the vicinity of other important cultural institutions such as the French-German Cultural Center, the Museum of Lord Cochrane, the Historic Monuments Council and the historic Port Market. The efforts of the Center in this key location will support the state’s policy of building the city’s identity as a seat of cultural vibrance and revitalizing the former heart of the city. The buildings contain offices, housing for local artists and visiting academics from around the world, a conference room, training facilities, the Center’s library, and a non-profit architectural consulting office, exhibition spaces, lecture hall, a café and a museum of architecture with permanent and visiting exhibitions.

Crear en un centro de recepción apropiado para el desarrollo de actividades académicas, de difusión y de proyectos urbanos para Universidades e Instituciones de extranjeros en Valparaíso a través de un Centro de Documentación y un Museo abiertos a la comunidad que permitan difundir el conocimiento de las distintas expresiones de la cultura urbana local, regional, nacional e internacional.
